About

Hi there, thanks for taking the time to look at this blog.

I am a history student from the United Kingdom who has a keen interest in making history interesting and relevant to everyone, hence why I started ‘Today in History’ in 2011.

I get a lot of people thinking I know all of this off the top of my head, but really what I do is each day comb online collections of historical events on that day and select one to write about. I then do a little bit of research online or in books I have to hand and write a brief synopsis of the event. Sometimes I already know a lot about it and sometimes I’m only just then learning about it; running this blog helps me learn more about history and the world just as much as I hope it helps you.

As for what I choose to write about, you may see from the posts that the majority cover European and American history. This is because this is what I study on my university course and have the best knowledge of. However, this blog is ‘Today in History’ not ‘Today in Western/British/American History’ etc. so I try to cover global content. The predominance of particular areas is not due to a personal judgement by me on their superiority or importance but because that is what I know the most about. I am always keen to learn more, and include posts on Asian, African, South American history and more. If you would like to see more of a particular area send a message suggesting a particular event and I’ll research and post about it.

Also just a quick note, if you want to know what happened on a particular day please use the archive tool rather than ask - I wish I knew it all off the top of my head but unfortunately I do not!

Thanks for reading!
