February 12th 1909: NAACP founded
On this day in 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People was founded. Its founders included notable civil rights campaigners like WEB Du Bois, Charles Edward Russell and Ida B. Wells. The NAACP became a leading force in fighting for political, educational, social and economic equality for all races. They played a major role in the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950s and 1960s fighting segregation and Jim Crow. They continue to be a major voice for racial equality.
