March 24th 1874: Houdini born
On this day in 1874, the American stunt performer Harry Houdini was born in Budapest. His birth name was Erik Weisz. He began a career as a magician in 1891 and initially was limited to card tricks, however he later moved onto escape acts. His famous stunts included escaping from handcuffs, being buried alive and the Chinese Water Torture Cell. He died in 1926 aged 52 from a ruptured appendix, supposedly from being repeatedly hit by a student.
