November 3rd 1954: Godzilla released
On this day in 1954, the Japanese science-fiction film ‘Godzilla’ was released. The film was directed by Ishirō Honda and its special effects, which were revolutionary for the time, were done by Eiji Tsuburaya. ‘Godzilla’ is the name of a monster who attacks cities across Japan, wreaking havoc across the nation. It was dubbed in English and edited to include American actors for its 1956 American re-release as ‘Godzilla, King of the Monsters!’. The original Godzilla remains an iconic piece of film making and the titular monster has become a staple of modern popular culture. An American remake of ‘Godzilla’ is to be released in 2014.
